Michigan Fishing License Guide for Central Coast Angling Guests
Planning a fishing trip with Captain Bob Hinds and Central Coast Angling on Lake Michigan or Northern Michigan’s inland lakes? One of the first steps to getting ready is making sure you have the proper Michigan fishing license. Whether you're targeting King Salmon on big water or jigging for Walleye and Perch on a quiet inland lake, having the right license keeps your trip legal and stress-free.
Do I Need a Michigan Fishing License?
Yes—anyone age 17 or older is required to have a valid Michigan fishing license, even if you're not keeping the fish. Children under 17 may fish without a license but must follow all rules and regulations. All anglers must comply with Michigan’s fishing laws, including size and bag limits, which vary by species and location.
Central Coast Angling operates trips on Lake Michigan, the Manistee River, Torch Lake, Lake Charlevoix, and other inland lakes—all of which fall under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
How to Obtain Your Michigan Fishing License
There are a few easy ways to get your license before your trip:
- Online: Visit the official Michigan DNR eLicense site to purchase your license instantly. Print or save a digital copy on your phone.
- In-Person: Licenses can be purchased at most bait shops, sporting goods stores, Meijer locations, or anywhere that sells DNR permits.
- By Phone: Call the Michigan DNR at 517-284-6057 for help purchasing a license or asking questions.
Types of Licenses Available
Depending on how often you plan to fish, choose from:
- 1-Day All-Species License – Great for single charter trips
- Annual All-Species License – Best value for multiple outings
- 72-Hour License – Good option for weekend fishing getaways
If you're coming from out of state, don’t worry—non-resident licenses are also available and just as easy to purchase.
What to Bring on Your Charter
Be sure to bring a copy of your fishing license, either printed or saved to your phone. Captain Bob Hinds recommends purchasing your license at least 24 hours in advance to avoid any last-minute issues.
Central Coast Angling provides everything else you’ll need for a productive day on the water, including rods, reels, bait, and expert guidance on local fishing laws and limits.
